Squash hybrid Seeds


Pumpkins and squash plants both produce male and female flowers. Male flowers pollinate female flowers, which grow squash or pumpkins. A squash plant could easily pollinate a pumpkin plant and vice versa to create hybrids.
Pumpkins and squash are sensitive to acid conditions, but will grow well on slightly acidic (pH 6.8) to moderately alkaline (pH 8.0), soils. Pumpkins and squash are quite sensitive to salinity.
Berry International Hybrid Squash (Targat) is a yellow summer crookneck squash variety that is early, highly productive and vigorous. This squash has a uniform shiny lemon-yellow coloring. Dixie Hybrid squash is tastiest when 4"-6" long. Grow these and enjoy a snack or side dish that is low in calories and a good source of vitamin A

For summer squash farming, well prepared land is required. To bring the soil to fine tilth, 2-3 ploughing followed by harrowing is done. Furrow the field at 2m apart to a depth of 15cm


Time of sowing:


The optimum time for sowing is mid-January to March and October to November month (under protection).


Spacing:


Sow two seeds per hill at the distance of 45cm.


Sowing depth:


Seeds should be planted 2.5-3.5cm deep.

IRRIGATION


Immediate irrigation is required after seed sowing and then subsequent irrigation are given at interval of 6-7 days depending upon the season. In total, 9-10 irrigations are required.
